Jim Manthorpe and his boots have trekked in many of the world's mountainous regions from Patagonia to the Himalayas and Scandinavia to the Canadian Rockies. But it is the Scottish Highlands, where he has been wandering the hills and living it up in bothies for the past fifteen years, that he feels most at home. Whilst reading Environmental Science at the University of Stirling he wrote a magazine article on climbing Beinn Lair for High Mountain Sports Magazine. Since then he has gone on to write the guidebooks Pembrokeshire Coast Path, South Downs Way and Scottish Highlands - The Hillwalking Guide. He has also contributed to Trailblazer’s Trans-Canada Rail Guide, Trekking in Ladakh and a number of guidebooks in the British walking guides series. Jim has written for a number of magazines and has lectured on trekking and photography at the Daily Telegraph Adventure Travel Show. When not writing, walking or taking photographs Jim can usually be found planning the next trip. |
