'How to drive or ride around the World'. Chris Scott
Chris Scott is a veteran of the Adventure Travel Show. His books for Trailblazer include the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook, Sahara Overland, Morocco Overland and the new, 730-page Overlanders' Handbook, the first fully comprehensive manual to vehicle-dependent overland travel. His talk will outline undertaking the big trip across Africa, Asia and Latin America in anything from a regular car to a 10-tonne truck.
'Camel Trekking in the Sahara'. Chris Scott
It's not merely a romantic notion to conclude that the best way to appreciate the desert is by travelling with camels. Sahara specialist Chris Scott outlines the opportunities for short excursions in Morocco and Tunisia, up to joining or organising longer treks of several hundreds of kilometres across parts of the central Sahara which vehicles cannot reach. The day-to-day practicalities of camel trekking are also discussed, as well as why these days more than ever, it has become a desirable, 'low-profile' means to getting to the heart of the Sahara. 'Kilimanjaro – The trekking guide to Africa’s highest mountain'. Henry Stedman
Cyclists to skiers, heroes to half-wits, bikers to boarders to backward walkers: it’s no wonder, given the sheer number of people who have climbed Kili over the past century, and the ways in which they’ve done so, that so many people believe that climbing Kili is a doddle. And you’d be forgiven for thinking the same. Henry Stedman is obsessed with this mountain and has climbed Kilimanjaro by all major routes. Read more.
'The Inca Trail and other hikes to Machu Picchu'. Alex Stewart
For thousands of years the people of South America developed separately from the rest of the world. Their culture culminated in the Incas, a people whose empire was centered on Peru and which stretched further than that of the Romans, yet who governed without having discovered iron, the wheel or writing. This talk will take you from your armchair to these cities of the Incas, Cusco and Machu Picchu, and guide you along the Incas' trails, stretches of some of the best hiking in the world. The presentation includes information on getting to Peru, a guide to Peru's capital Lima, and background information on modern Peru. Read more.
'Trekking in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco'. Alan Palmer
The High Atlas Mountains, the tallest in North Africa, include more than 400 peaks above 3000m. Alan Palmer, author of Trailblazer's Moroccan Atlas - the trekking guide, gives practical information on how to organise a trip and what to expect. He describes the popular ascents including Jbel Toubkal (4167m) and Ighil Mgoun (4068m), plus lesser known routes in the more southerly Anti-Atlas Mountains dominated by the impressive volcanic plug of Jbel Sirwa (3305m), and the magnificent wilderness of Jbel Sahro.
