John Douglas

John Douglas's love affair with Norway's Arctic Highway began as an undergraduate ambition to drive to the North Cape. This he achieved when the road was, for the most part, little more than a gravel track.

He has since travelled in Arctic Scandinavia countless times, sometimes forsaking the road for canoe, RIB or light aircraft. He is the author of sixteen books including the definitive history of the route: The Arctic Highway (David & Charles).

Following a family tradition, he served as an officer in the British Army before embarking on a career in academia.

Taking every opportunity to travel, he has travelled and photographed in over sixty countries in four continents. John is now a director of Geo Group & Associates, working mostly in Africa.
