Thank you to Dr Kitty Duncan on behalf of the International Porter Protection Group’s Machermo Rescue Post ( IPPG) who sent in the following update.

The information has not yet been checked by Trailblazer but it will be for the next edition.

July 2011

Machermo map (p210)and pages  205 & 293,   The Machermo Rescue Post and Porter Shelter is run by the International Porter Protection Group, Community Action Nepal and the local community. The post is open during the peak trekking seasons and is staffed with Western volunteer doctors. Trekkers are charged for Consultations (US$50 per consult or rupee equivalent)  and medications, which allows porters to be seen for free and locals for a small nominal charge.   They also give a free daily altitude lecture at 3pm. They sell  T  shirts, badges and accept donations, all which allow the service to continue.  A doctor is also in residence at Gokyo during the peak 4 weeks of each season and a permanent post will be opening here in the near future.
