FARES

Fares quoted are for an adult; children aged under 4 often travel free and are half price if aged between 5 and 12. However, policies vary so it's always best to check.
The fares quoted are one-way; most companies offer a wide variety of discounts so it's also worth checking what you might be entitled to.
The price range quoted reflects variations in season and class of travel. Some companies have only two seasons, some four or more so it is always worth checking.
Passenger fares given are generally for deck class and a Pullman seat (an airline-style seat). Cabin fares are given for journeys over eight hours.
Vehicle fares quoted are car, motorbike and bicycle. Fares for trailers, caravans etc are available on the relevant company's website (see pp433-7) or through an agent.
Port taxes are not included in the prices quoted but are generally €5-15 per person.

MISCELLANEOUS
Some companies describe the more modern ferries as ‘high-speed’, others as ‘fast�; for consistency the latter is used in the text.
Services operate year-round unless specified but again it is always worth checking as service frequency is affected by many different factors.
Where a company operates both regular and fast-ferry services the former often operate year-round, the latter in summer only.
Some companies offer a free bus service from their office to the port.
Some companies have agencies which will be able to provide full information about the services. Most agencies are in Europe; some are listed in the list of ferry companies (see pp433-7) but are also available on most ferry companies’ websites.
For ease of use the ferry companies are listed in alphabetical order; the list is purely for information and is not meant to be a recommendation of any one company over another.
